Il primo numero del nuovo anno presenta il disco del mese di gennaio: si tratta di “Stella ariènte” di Maria Maramarco, un viaggio tematico nei tesori inestimabili dei repertori del canto religioso dialettale, che ben si adattano alla potente vocalità della frontwoman degli Uaragniaun, ricercatrice ed interprete, erede di cantatrici e cantatori e mediatrice delle forme musicali di tradizione orale. La pagina world offre “Fuegos y Chavela”, l’omaggio a Chavela Vargas di Letizia Fuochi, e i due album sulla memoria sefardita di Sarah Aroeste, intitolati “Monastir” e “Hanukà!”. A seguire, i lavori davvero consigliati di una doppia coppia: “Fallow Ground” di John Spiers & Jon Boden e “Raise Roof” di Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. Vogliamo ricordare, poi, due enormi personalità che ci hanno lasciato, l’etnomusicologo, musicista, cantante e compositore vietnamita Trần Quang Hải, e il ghirondista e polistrumentista, compositore e ricercatore monferrino Maurizio Martinotti, sulla cui figura ospitiamo anche un intervento di Franco Castelli. Per la canzone d’autore ci occupiamo di “Chieffo. Charity Tribute”, in cui artisti italiani e internazionali rendono omaggio a Claudio Chieffo. Trovate ancora la recensione di "Wood Tales" di Jacopo Ferrazza, mentre la foto Valerio Corzani presenta il cantautore e polistrumentista capoverdiano-portoghese Miroca Paris.

Infine, non ci sottraiamo al rituale annuale delle Playlist redazionali ma, soprattutto, abbiamo scelto il nostro disco dell’anno, che è il magnifico “Still Moving” (Ponderosa Music & Art) di Justin Adams & Mauro Durante, combinazione simbiotica di storie e confluenze musicali, una coppia di artisti che produce un suono intimo ed essenziale ma al contempo diretto e dinamico.

The new year’s first issue presents our album of the month of January, which is Maria Moramarco’s “Stella ariènte”, a journey through the invaluable treasures of religious dialect repertoires, that well suits the powerful voice of Uaragniaun’s frontwoman, a researcher and interpreter, heir to traditional singers and a mediator of the musical forms of the oral tradition. The world music page offers “Fuegos y Chavela”, Letizia Fuochi’s homage to Chavela Vargas, and the two recordings, entitled "Monastir" and "Hanukà!” where Sarah Aroeste explores her Sephardic heritage. Next, the highly recommended releases from a double couple, that is John Spiers & Jon Boden’s “Fallow Ground” and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ “Raise Roof”. We pay respect to two highly respected personalities who have passed away, Trần Quang Hải, the Vietnamese maestro, an ethnomusicologist, composer and singer master, and Maurizio Martinotti, the Piedmontese hurdy gurdy player and multi-instrumentalist, composer and researcher, on whose figure we also host an article by Franco Castelli. For the songwriting page we review “Chieffo. Charity Tribute”, in which Italian and international artists pay tribute to Claudio Chieffo. You’ll find also a review of Jacopo Ferrazza’s release “Wood Tales”. Valerio Corzani’s photo features the Cape Verdean-Portuguese singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Miroca Paris.

Finally, we do not escape the ritual of the editorial yearly Playlists, but, above all, we have chosen our album of the year, which is the stunning “Still Moving”, getting together Justin Adams & Mauro Durante (Ponderosa Music & Art), a symbiotic combination of stories and musical confluences, a pair of artists who priduce an intimate and essential sound that is at the same time direct and dynamic.
