Editor's Note
Our cover story is dedicated to a book not to be missed: Maurizio Agamennone’s “Viaggiando per onde su onde”, published by SquiLibri. The volume of the ethnomusicologist, whose subtitle is “Il viaggio di conoscenza, la radiofonia e le tradizioni musicali locali nell’Italia del dopoguerra (1945-1960)” (translates as “The journey of knowledge, radio broadcasting and local musical traditions in post-war Italy (1945-1960)”, offers a retrospective look, but full of references to the contemporary, on that historical time marked by an enormous cultural ferment in Italy that rose again after the destruction of WWII. We have spoken to the author about his recent essay. Our recommended record of the week is “Songs Of Our Mothers”, a release by the Kefaya collective with the Afghan singer Elaha Soroor, whilst “Donne del Sud. Anch’io Francesca Prestìa canto Otello Profazio” is the soulful interpretation given by Francesca Prestìa of some of the best songs by the immense Calabrian songwriter and storyteller. At the top of our wide Live Music page is the chronicle from the XXVI edition of the Festival "La Zampogna". Then you’ll find the report from Eric Andersen’s gig, held in Casapulla (CE). Elsewhere, Alessio Surian takes us to Padua for Maria Grand Trio’s concert. For the section Memory we offer the second part of Paolo Mercurio’s contribution entitled “Leonardo da Vinci, music and musical instruments”. Back to reviews with “An elephant in the room”, which is Ivan Talarico's debut album, and Theo Teardo's “Grief Is The Thing With Feathers”. We end issue # 433, with Corzani Airlines presenting the Continuadores on stage at the Atlantic Music Expo 2019 held in Praia, Island of Santiago (Cape Verde).
