Editor's Note
We open our first June issue with the monthly BF-CHOICE, which is “La parte mancante”, the posthumous album by Francesco Di Giacomo, voice and soul of the Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. Anticipated by the single “Bomba Intelligente”, which was awarded the Targa Tenco as Best Song in 2016, the disc contains pieces the late Di Giacomo was working to with the help from the musician and producer Paolo Sentinelli before his premature passing away. The album has been recently published on vinyl and is now available on CD in an extended format containing four further tracks. We have talked to Sentinelli and Antonella Caspoli, Francesco’s wife and producer herself, to learn more about this intense and powerful work. Our world music column focus on “There is no Other”, the collaborative release by Rhiannon Giddens and the Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi, not to be missed. The sound of Armenian spirituality and jazz intersect in Areni Agbabian’s “Bloom”, which is out on ECM. Back to the paths of our Italian journey, we propose “Suspiro”, the interesting debut of the Neapolitan trio Suonno D’ajere. Then, you’ll read the chronicle of the two day conference “How Europe Discovered the Music of the World after World War II. Cold War, Unesco, and the Ethnomusicological Debate ", organized on the occasion of the fiftieth birthday of the dell’Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati di Venezia. (Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies, Venice). Also, , there is Paolo Mercurio’s contribution entitled “SoundHology, il silenzio tra natura, società, mistica e ricerca interdisciplinare”. This week’s reading offers the latest issues of “La Piva Del Carner”, while on the experimental side, we have listened to “Eremitaggi” by Fabio Barovero, including compositions woven with electronica, double bass and violin strings, and Josephine Wagg’s “We Fall”. We end with Valerio Corzani’s photographic eye featuring Danae Estrela.
