Editor's Note
Again, we talk about the WWI chatting to Professor Ignazio Macchiarella, ethnomusicologist at the University of Cagliari, co-author with Emilio Tamburini of the volume "Le voci ritrovate. Canti e narrazioni di prigionieri italiani della Grande Guerra negli archivi sonori di Berlino". The study presents an unpublished corpus of recordings concerning Italian war convicts in the German prison camps. Next, we propose Paolo Mercurio’s contribution entitled “SoundHology, il silenzio, cultura e poetica dell’infinito”. The world music column opens with "Echoes Of Japan" by the Japanese band Minyo Crusaders, who has climbed the top of the Transglobal World Music Chart – it’s this week’s recommended disc. Then we review "Canta" by the Italo-Argentine combo Surealistas and "Liquaa" released by the Franco-Syrian flutist Naïssam Jalal and the Egyptian oud player Hazem Shaheen. Bellows at centre stage in two Irish music discs. You’ll find the innovation displayed in David Munelly’s "Aonair", he’s one of the members in the squeezebox band Accordion Samurai, and the traditional repertoire offered by the young button accordion player Damien O'Reilly in "Dùchas". Finally, listen to "The Canoe" by the English singer-songwriter Carrie Tree. After a set of records, we’ll present live music with the chronicle of "La Memoria è Voce di Donna", hosted at Officina Pasolini in Rome showcasing an exceptional trio of Italian folk ladies: Lucilla Galeazzi, Elena Ledda and Fausta Vetere . To complete Blogfoolk # 410, you’ll find the review of Sarah Davachi & Ariel Kalma’s "Intemporel", while Valerio Corzani’s shot features John Paul Jones at the Turin Jazz Festival. Enjoy your reading!
