Welcome to Blogfoolk # 401. Our cover story is Uaragniaun, with a focus on their most recent releases, from “Cillacilla” by the lead singer and researcher Maria Moramarco, an album covering the local repertoire of nursery rhymes and infant songs, to the DVD “Sipario”, displaying a concert in the magnificent Teatro Mercadante of Altamura, up to the project “Perché sono comunista”, a tribute to Fabio Perinei, which becomes an opportunity to trace a journey into the memory and political history of the Altamura area. Together with the band long-serving members, Maria Moramarco, Luigi Bolognese and Silvio Teot, we discuss these projects, which are part of their research into the musical traditions of the Murge, in Apulia. We move to the Bergamo area for the double album “Antiche Armonie di Gandino”, a recent production by Federazione Campanari Bergamaschi, a new piece in the documentation of the centuries-old tradition of the art of playing bells. The world music page opens with “Amina”, the second album by the ensemble Refugees For Refugees. It follows “Moon Night” by the Chinese Guo Gan, erhu maestro, offering ten pieces by the composer Liu Tian Hua. Last stop it’s for “Sweet Release” by Reese Wynans, prominent name in American blues-rock scene. Our Memory column, on the occasion of the World Theatre Day, presents Paolo Mercurio’s contribution entitled: “Paolo Grassi, combattivo artista-organizzatore dello spettacolo che sapeva pensare in grande”. As far as songwriting is concerned, listen to “Appunti sulla felicità” by Jacopo Ratini. The book page shows a focus on “Mesdames at 78 giri. Storie di donne che hanno cantata il blues”, written by the guitarist Roberto Menabò, whom we interviewed. We propose the review of the re-issue of “A Cordes Et A Cris” by the great French double bassist Henri Texier. Finally, Valerio Corzani’s shot, starring Kelela, taken on stage at Nos Primavera Sound in Oporto, in June 2018. Farewell to Senegalese saxophonist Issa Cissokho, who has passed away. A member of the legendary Orchestra Baobab from their early days right through to their 2017 album “Tribute to Ndiouga Dieng”.
