Apriamo il numero con un focus sui dieci anni della Transglobal World Music Chart, celebrati nel corso del Festival Napoli World con un panel nel corso del quale abbiamo raccolto la presentazione di due delle anime di questo straordinario progetto, Juan Antonio Vázquez e Araceli “Tzigane” Sánchez, fondatori e amministratori della Transglobal World Music Chart (TGWMC), insieme allo spagnolo di residenza USA Ángel Romero. Occasione anche per annunciare dei nuovi ingressi nella Hall Of Fame 2025. Segue la quarta ed ultima parte del corposo contributo dedicato alla storica formazione folk transalpina dei Malicorne, redatta da Flavio Poltronieri, e le recensioni di “Eita” del brasiliano Lenine, “Songbooks Live” dell’accoppiata belga-svedese Wör x Kongero e, dall’Italia, il progetto “D-Segni" di Guappecartò e l’evocativo “Cordofonie di pace” di Ugo Gangheri, featuring Ernesto Nobili. Restiamo a Napoli con “Radio Rom" degli ’O Rom, nostro disco consigliato, per poi dedicarci a lettura e ascolti con il libro con Cd “Noi de borgata. Le canzoni di Armandino Liberti", per la curatela di Omerita Ranalli e Sara Modigliani, finalista alle Targhe Tenco come album a progetto nel 2025. Abbiamo, poi, seguito due appuntamenti veneziani dell’importante rassegna “Incroci in musica”: Redi Hasa e Rami Khalifé de L’Antidote e Riccardo Tesi Elastic 4tet. La controcopertina è come sempre firmata da Valerio Corzani con il suo scatto che vede protagonista Roberto Gatto a LRS Studio a Roma nel Novembre 2025.

Il 2025 sarà ricordato come un anno funesto e costellato da grandi perdite. Questa settimana abbiamo, infatti, detto addio a Cataldo Perri, medico di professione, ma soprattutto chitarrista battente, cantastorie e autore per passione, che dalla sua Calabria ci ha consegnato un corpus di canzoni che resteranno nel nostro cuore. Anche Joe Ely, cantautore texano e membro dei The Flatlanders non è piuù, uno di quei grandi “almost famous” che ci hanno consegnato alcune tra le pagine più belle del roots rock. Addio anche a alla danese Marilyn Mazur, percussionista e compositrice, già nella band di Miles Davis e Wayne Shorter, una delle artiste più innovative che ha attraversato diversi generi musicali con creatività straordinaria.

We’re kicking off this issue with a special focus on ten years of the Transglobal World Music Chart. We celebrated the milestone during Napoli World with a panel featuring the heart and soul of this extraordinary project: founders and admins Juan Antonio Vázquez and Araceli “Tzigane” Sánchez, alongside US-based Spaniard Ángel Romero. It was also the perfect stage to announce the new inductees for the 2025 Hall of Fame. Next, we bring you the fourth and final part of Flavio Poltronieri’s deep dive into the legendary French folk outfit Malicorne. This is followed by our latest reviews, including “Eita” from the Brazilian Lenine, “Songbooks Live” from Wör x Kongero, Belgian-Swedish teaming bands, and two Italian projects: Guappecartò’s “D-Segni” and Ugo Gangheri’s evocative “Cordofonie di pace” featuring Ernesto Nobili. We’re staying in Naples for our recommended album of the month, ’O Rom’s “Radio Rom,” before moving on to our reading list with the book-and-CD set “Noi de borgata. Le canzoni di Armandino Liberti.” Edited by Omerita Ranalli and Sara Modigliani, it was a 2025 Targhe Tenco finalist in the project album category. On the live front, we headed to Venice for two shows from the prestigious “Incroci in musica” series: Redi Hasa and Rami Khalifé from L’Antidote, and the Riccardo Tesi Elastic 4tet. Sadly, 2025 will be remembered as a fateful year marked by great losses. This week, we said goodbye to Cataldo Perri – a doctor by profession, but above all a master of the chitarra battente, a storyteller, and a passionate songwriter. From his beloved Calabria, he leaves us with a collection of songs that will stay in our hearts forever. Joe Ely, the Texas singer-songwriter and member of The Flatlanders, has also passed away; he was one of those "almost famous" greats who wrote some of the most beautiful pages of roots rock. Finally, we bid farewell to Danish percussionist and composer Marilyn Mazur. Having played in the bands of Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter, she was one of the most innovative artists around, crossing musical genres with extraordinary creativity.
