Non possiamo che iniziare con un tributo a due massime figure che tristemente ci hanno lasciato nei giorni scorsi, entrambi all’età di 65 anni. Shane MacGowan, leader dei The Pogues, di cui il Presidente della Repubblica d’Irlanda, il poeta Michael D. Higgins, ha detto: "Il genio del contributo di Shane include il fatto che le sue canzoni catturano in sé, come direbbe Shane, la misura dei nostri sogni - di così tanti mondi, e in particolare quelli dell'amore, dell'esperienza dell'emigrato e di affrontare le sfide di quella esperienza con autenticità e coraggio, e di vivere e vedere gli aspetti della vita da cui molti si voltano. “Le sue parole hanno avvicinato gli irlandesi di tutto il mondo alla loro cultura e alla loro storia, racchiudendo così tante emozioni nel modo più poetico”.

L’altra grande personalità che se n’è andata è Benjamin Zephaniah, scrittore, drammaturgo, attore, musicista e poeta dub rastafariano, nato in Giamaica, ma trasferitosi a Birmingham fin dalla più tenera età. Una delle più grandi personalità della cultura britannica contemporanea. Nel 2003 rifiutò l'offerta dell’onorificenza OBE. Anni dopo, respinse l’idea di diventare il Poeta Laureato.

Eccoci al palinsesto di questo primo numero di dicembre. È tempo di disco del mese, che è “Persephone”, testimonianza dell’incontro tra Luigi Cinque, Stefano Saletti e Urna Chahar-Tugchi. Con i due musicisti italiani abbiamo parlato di questo album ispirato al mito della dea ctonia.

Proseguiamo con una fitta pagina di suoni world and folk, proponendo “Rainbow Revisited” della cantante, pianista e compositrice sudafricana Thandi Ntuli con Carlos Niño, “Saadi” dei franco-marocchini Aywa e del supergruppo bluegrass Mighty Poplar, all’esordio con il disco eponimo. Continuiamo con “Wanda Pétrichor” del quartetto femminile francese La Mòssa, “Piazza Aperta” de La Buonasera (Germana Mastropasqua e Xavier Rebut) e “777” della Banda Putiferio. Abbiamo seguito la seconda edizione di Napoli World, tre giorni di festival, showcase e meeting tra professionals delle musiche dal mondo.
