Editor's Note
Our September BF-choice is “Y”, the debut album from the Motus Laevus, a Genoa trio including Edmondo Romano’s winds, guitarist Luca Falomi and the Slovenian pianist and singer Tina Omerzo. Within their Mediterranean crossover many elements coexist elegantly (folk and traditional rhythms and melodies, baroque, jazz and prog). We speak to the trio about the sonic world of “Y”. Then, La Banda Morisca returns with a luxurious CD-book entitled “Gitana Mora” which celebrates the tenth anniversary of the band from Jerez. Another great comeback is the Malian guitarist Afel Bocoum, a key musician in Ali Farka Touré’s band, who has realised a long-awaited solo album “Lindé”, which is this week’s recommended album. We listened to Vusi 'The Voice' Mahlasela’ s “Shebeen Queen. Our trip to Italy continues with the debut album from “Taranta Lanera”, the electro-tarantella project of Mari Lanera, Treviso-born artist based in Bordeaux. We go to the north-west peninsula of the Hexagone with Flavio Poltronieri’s article “Cartoline musicali dalle isole bretoni”. The live stage offers the chronicle of the double concert of the Etno Jazz Night showcasing Tupa Ruja and Indaco Project, held at Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. For the songwriting page you find Marco Revelli’s “Portami Al Confine”. We continue with a review of the extraordinary “Duo” consisting in the successful teaming up between the American saxophonist and composer Anthony Braxton and South African harpist Jacqueline Kerrod. We end in style with the Canadian singer -songwriter MorMor through Valerio Corzani’s lens.
