Editor's Note
The cover story of Foolk Magazine issue # 432 is for “The danza della pizzica pizzica”, Franca Tarantino and Vincenzo Santoro’s latest book. It is a work that sheds new light on one of the most attractive dance styles, reconstructing its growing fortune but also the ways in which the dance from Salento has been reinvented, restored and globalized up to TV commercialization of “La Notte della Taranta”. In the interview Franca Tarantino traces the progress of her research, focuses on her teaching practice and on the recent documentary made in collaboration with Karkum Project. The world music pages offer “Do You Love” by the Russian Otava Yo and the Cuban Daymé Arocena’s latest release “Sonocardiogram”, which is our recommended record of the week. For live music content we present the sixth edition of the Visa For Music (the fair to be held in Rabat, 20-23 November). We have spoken to its director Brahim El Mazned. It follows, then, the chronicle of the gig the Stregoni played in Arcella (PD) and the master double-bass player Renaud Garcia-Fons gave in Venice last 6 November. For the 500 years since Leonardo Da Vinci’s passed away, we propose the first part of Paolo Mercurio’s contribution, entitled “Leonardo da Vinci, musica e strumenti musicali”. Songwriting is represented in this issue with Flavio Poltronieri who finds out a precious but little-known 1976’s live recording by Claudio Lolli. Again, there is the review of Sonata Islands’ “Relendo Villa-Lobos”. We end up with Valerio Corzani focusing on the Norwegian pianist and composer Bugge Wesseltoft.
