Editor's Note
BlogFOOLK # 423 opens with “Five Seasons”, the comeback album of Birkin Tree, a true Italian institution of traditional Irish music. After nine years of recording silence, the band from Savona is back with an exquisite acoustic work. We have spoken to the frontman and piper Fabio Rinaudo. From the green island’s shores seen through the perspective of Liguria’s western riviera we move to Slovenia for “A Universe that Roasts Blossoms for a Horse”, the latest release of Širom’s playing so-called imaginary folk. It’s a formidable trio, one of the most interesting live act right now, currently touring Italy. Overseas, from Belize, comes “Aban”, the new Garifuna Collective’s CD. Let’s go back to Italy to review Soballera’s “Luce ‘na stella”, the original soundtrack to the documentary “Notarangelo thief of souls”, directed by David Grieco, dedicated to the Lucan photographer Domenico Notarangelo. Paolo Mercurio’s contribute is entitled “Glocalità dello scacciapensieri, la ribeba in Valsesia”. Our long Live music page offers an interview with Caterina Pontrandolfo, the Lucan theatre actress and folk-singer, creator and director of the international project of Mediterranean singing “Peace Women Singing/Matera Mater Melodiae”, which will be performed next weekend (13, 14 and 15 September) in Matera. Tosca was the protagonist of “Appunti Musicali dal Mondo”, her show held in the beautiful setting of the Castle of Santa Severa. Still, we have seen and heard Louis Moholo-Moholo's Four Blokes at the Art Center of the University of Padua. Records reviews again with Grup Doğuş, a Turkish band featuring the legendary Tufan Aydoğan and brother Muhittin. Finally, Valerio Corzani’s pic portrays Valeria Sturba, a young and versatile multi-instrumentalist from Abruzzo.
