Editor's Note
Blogfoolk # 421 is with you, folks. His week’s cover story is “Rito e Passione”, Vincenzo Santoro’ s new book. The author continues his critical analysis over the revival of traditional Salento music. We met the essayist and cultural operator from Salento to discuss the issues underlying his brand new publication. Elsewhere, Flavio Poltronieri presents “Se potessi parlare con Dio gli chiederei se può mandare la pioggia”, a contribution dedicated to the unforgettable Cesaria Evora on the occasion of the seventy-eighth birth anniversary. Two hundred years ago the event we have come to know as Peterloo massacre took place at St. Peter’s Field, Manchester when cavalry violently broke up a crowd who had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation. We present a focus to discuss of the most nefarious episodes in British political history, speaking of the book “Ballads And Songs Of Peterloo” by Dr. Alison Morgan and the album “The Road To Peterloo”, a joint-up project by Pete Coe, Brian Peters and Laura Smith. Again from Great Britain, the Anglo-Irish Flook quartet is back at full flight with their stunning disc “Ancora”. We have, then, “Vildaluodda”, Finn band Vildà’s new release and the Dominican Xiomara Fortuna’s latest called “Son Verdad”. Back to Italy for the chronicle of the 2019 edition of the Ariano Folk Festival and to tell you about Marco Ongaro’s “Il fantasma baciatore”. The Contemporary Music column offers the review of Gigi Masin & Jonny Nash's "Postcards From Nowhere". Finally, Valerio Corzani focuses on the Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles.
