Editor's Note
Dear Blogfoolkers, the second issue of July opens with a retrospective in memory of João Gilberto, the Brazilian guitarist and author, founder of bossa nova, who has passed away at the age of eighty-eight at his home in Rio de Janeiro. It follows an interview with the Malian musician Vieux Farka Tourè, collected at the Festival “Contaminafro”. Our recommended record of the week is “Rüya - Dream for Anatolia”, the excellent second album from the London-based Turkish singer Olcay Bayir. Next is "Back Home" by the oud player Yinon Muallem, Israeli-born to parents of Iraqi origin, currently based in Turkey. Back home, we review “Viaggio In Italia. Cantando le nostre radici”, AdoRiza’s highly appreciated release, a meeting of young artists originated within the workshop of “Officina delle Arti Pier Paolo Pasolini”, freshly awarded “Targa Tenco” in the “Project album” category. For the live music column, you’ll find the chronicle from the workshops and gigs held at “Mare e Miniere” Festival in Sardinia. This week’s reading is “Storia culturale della canzone italiana”, Jacopo Tomatis’ ponderous and essential volume published by Il Saggiatore. Still speaking about song-writing, we offer the review of “Blues in Mi, Vol.1” by the Milanese songster Folco Orselli. Then, we cover Francesco Di Fiore’s “Concerto Ostinato”. Valerio Corzani’s pic ends our # 416 to show the versatile multi-instrumentalist and composer Vincenzo Vasi.
