Editor's Note
Dear readers, here we have July’s first issue. Number 415 opens with our BF-Choice, which is “Alegria e Liberta”, a disc originated from the collaboration between Lucilla Galeazzi, the Galician-Belgian voices of Ialma quartet, the percussionist Carlo Rizzo, the organetto maestro Didier Laloy and the guitarist Maarteen Decombel. It is a work that puts five masterful voices and three exceptional instrumentalists at the center stage, covering a repertoire ranging from the Italian to the Iberian tradition. Lucilla Galeazzi herself speaks about this new vibrant project. To continue the world music page we review the highly recommended “Nyolc 8 Nyolc”, the latest release of the Hungarian tambura virtuosos Söndörgő. We move to Brittany to listen to “Into the jungle” by the duo Les Fréres Paranthoën (violin, diatonic accordion and voice). Another gem is “Philos” by the South Korean multi-instrumentalist Park Jiha (piri, saenghwang and yanggeum), who combines local tradition, minimalism and avant-garde. Last but not least, you’ll find “Celia”, where the magnificent African diva Angélique Kidjo takes on the late Celia Cruz’s repertoire. The Book column proposes Marcello Sorce Keller’s review of “Geschichte der Schweizer Volksmusik” by Brigitte Bachmann-Geiser, which is dedicated to traditional Swiss music. For our Live Music section, you’ll have the chronicle of “Moon in June” Festival, held on the Isola Maggiore of Lake Trasimeno. The jazz and contemporary pages display the review of “Elephantine”, the latest project released by the Egyptian Maurice Louca, a mix of avant-jazz, impro and sounds of Africa and Yemen, and “Black Mode” by saxophonist Francesco Massaro. Valerio Corzani’s closing image hosts Mariama, Sierra Leone born, Paris resident singer.
