Infine, ricordiamo Bastiaan Springer, nostro collega olandese, giornalista e presentatore radio, figura assai nota nel circuito internazionale delle musiche del mondo, che è venuto a mancare.
Editor's Note
“Rosa e Fuoco”, Nuove Tribù Zulù’s fresh release opens a rich Foolk Magazine issue 449. For the historical band from Rome it is a journey of encounters, movement, change and crossover. We have spoken of their latest offspring and of much more in a long interview with Ludovica Valori, Andrea and Paolo Camerini. We continue following the world music path presenting Romarabeat, a project that brings together some of renowned instrumentalists of the multicultural Roman scene. We remain in Italy to review “Armati di Coraggio” from the accordionist Mauro Manicardi and The Dead Folk Society and “Open” from Whiskey Trail, the veteran Irish-folk Florentine band. Then in England to focus on “Unearth Repeat”, Sam Sweeney’s stunning brand-new work, from one of the most appreciated fiddlers in the English folk scene. We move to Ghana for “11th Street, Sekondi”, the latest from highlife singer and multi-instrumentalist Gyedu-Blay Ambolley. We then review “Simido”, Haitian-born French resident Moonlight Benjamin’s latest superb second album. Paolo Mercurio presents “Teatro Gerolamo, musica popolare e marionette nel centro di Milano”. Also, you’ll find the review of “Across the universe”, Al Di meola’s homage to The Beatles. Valerio Corzani’s back cover features the South African Bongeziwe Mabandla, urban Afro-folk voice not to be missed.
Finally, we remember Bastiaan Springer, our Dutch colleague, journalist and radio host, a well-known and much loved figure in the international circuit of world music, who has passed away.
