Editor's Note
Issue 445’s headliner is singer Maria Mazzotta, who has just published “Amoreamaro” (Augualoca Records, where she teams up with the Apulian-Malagasy pianist and accordionist Bruno Galeone. Minimal structures yet elegantly packaged for an album that offers a bewitching program providing diverse woman’s perspectives upon love, displaying an array of traditional songs, folk-revival standards and self-composed pieces. All this and much more is discussed in the interview with the renowned Salento singer. We head to to Brazil for Arnaldo Antunes' latest “O Real Resiste”, while the stunning Sahra Halgan's “Waa dardaaran” moves between France and Somalinad. A new protagonist in the protest folk scene is the Englishman Thom Ashworth, who recorded “Head Canon”, where here and there you can hear sounds that lead directly to the retrospective on Richard Thompson curated by Flavio Poltronieri. Last stop the US to report on “Western Stars. Songs from the film”, the movie soundtrack, following Bruce Springsteen’s recent controversial album. From our reading shelf, we propose “Tarantismo: Odissea di un rituale italiano”, an intriguing project published by FLEE, bringing together an anthological volume dedicated to Tarantism and a double LP with Ernesto de Martino's recordings re-proposed in original and remixed versions. We continue with the reviews of “Sambene cantano de André” and Michelangelo Scandroglio’s “The Eyes Of The Whale”. Finally, Valerio Corzani’s snap reveals Lucky Peterson.
