Editor's Note
The first album of the month of the new year is “Calendario Civile”, the project conceived by the Circolo Gianni Bosio and the publisher Donzelli, which has now become a double album edited by Susanna Buffa, Sara Modigliani, Alessandro Portelli and Laura Zanacchi and published by Nota Records, featuring some of the most significant Italian folk singers and songwriters. We have spoken about the project to the historian and Americanist Alessandro Portelli, with whom we have also discussed “We Shall Not Be Moved”, the huge work (a book accompanied by a 4 CD box set), issued by Squi[Libri], which contains the results of Portelli's fifty-year research and field work in the United States. The world music section takes us to Morocco to hear Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou’s “Oulad lghaba”, a disc already at the top of the Transglobal World Music Chart. Then, we present the remarkable eponymous album from the Malian singer Mah Damba. Last stop the States for the roots rock of Lucero (“Among the ghosts”). Let's talk about guitar again with “Crowing Ignites”, Bruce Cockburn’s notable new release. Back to Italy for “Luna In Ariete” by Ilaria Pilar Patassini. The Jazz Sounds regular section proposes “Tempo di Chet” and “Norma”, Paolo Fresu's latest releases, while for contemporary music we review “Decay Music n.1: Besoch Trauma” of the Vértice trio, featuring Maurizio Bianchi, Saverio Evangelista and Juan Manuel Cidrón. Finally, we end this issue 439 with Valerio Corzani’s shot starring the Swedish drummer Magnus Öström.
