Settembre si apre all’insegna del disco del mese, che è “Trallalero Levantìn” di Orchestra Bailam e Canterini Genovesi, album che celebra trent’anni di navigazione sonora lungo le rotte del Mediterraneo orientale della formazione genovese e che rappresenta l’ideale seguito dell’eccellente “Galata”. L’Orchestra Bailam e la Squadra di cantanti realizzano affascinanti attraversamenti sonori, incrociando i modi e ritmi della feconda mescolanza culturale d’epoca ottomana le polifonie urbane genovesi del trallalero. Di tutto questo abbiamo parlato con il frontman, compositore e polistrumentista Franco Minelli. Seguiamo ancora i sentieri delle musiche del mondo con il pregevole “I Nefes della confraternita Sufi Bekhtâshî ad Istanbul e nei Balcani” dell’Ensemble Bîrûn, diretto da Kudsi Erguer, il nuovo capitolo del programma di studio del veneziano Istituto Interculturale di Studi Musicali Comparati. Restiamo in Medio Oriente con “Diwan” di Shahbaz Hussain & Helen Anahita Wilson, per poi volare prima a Nashville con “Old News” del quartetto The Steel Woods e poi nel Brasile di “Rebujo”, che segna il ritorno discografico dell’ottuagenaria Dona Onete, il cui nuovo lavoro è balzato in testa alla Transglobal World Music Chart di settembre. Parliamo di musica dal vivo con la controversa ventiduesima edizione de La Notte della Taranta. Sul versante della canzone d’autore presentiamo “Adele e i suoi eroi” di Adel Tirant, mentre per la rubrica Suoni Jazz spazio al live “Tarantavirus Jazz Night”, opera del funambolico trombettista salentino Cesare Dell’Anna. Ci occupiamo, poi, della ristampa di “Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtrack” di Brian Eno, con Daniel Lanois e Roger Eno, mentre Valerio Corzani ha fissato il suo obiettivo sul teutonico Apparat.

September opens with our disc of the month, which is Orchestra Bailam and Canterini Genovesi’s “Trallalero Levantìn”, an album that celebrates thirty years of musical voyage of the Genoese formation along the eastern Mediterranean routes, also representing the ideal sequel to the excellent “Galata”. Orchestra Bailam and the singers squad combine the modes and rhythms of the rich cultural mix of the Ottoman age with the Genoese urban polyphonies known as trallalero. We have spoken to the Bailam’s frontman, composer and multi-instrumentalist Franco Minelli to learn more about their latest release. We still follow the paths of world music with the valuable “The Nefes of the Sufi Bekhtâshî brotherhood in Istanbul and the Balkans” by the Ensemble Bîrûn, directed by Kudsi Erguer. It’s the new chapter of the Venetian study program held by Intercultural Institute of Comparative Musical Studies, exploring the heritage of a Sufi brotherhood. Still from the Middle East, we review “Diwan” by Shahbaz Hussain & Helen Anahita Wilson. Then we fly to Nashville for “Old News” by The Steel Woods quartet to finally reach Brazil for “Rebujo”, which marks the octogenarian Dona Onete’s comeback, an album at the top of the September Transglobal World Music Chart. Let’s focus on live music with the chronicle of the controversial twenty-second edition of La Notte della Taranta. The song-writing column presents Adel Tirant’s “Adele and his heroes”, while Suoni Jazz section offers “Tarantavirus Jazz Night”, displaying a live performance of the acrobatic Salentine trumpeter Cesare Dell’Anna. We deal with the reissue of “Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtrack” by Brian Eno, with Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno. To end issue 422 we see the German electronic composer Apparat through Valerio Corzani’s lens.
