Editor's Note
Dear readers, we conclude a 2018 full of music with an effervescent end-of-year Blogfoolk # 389. Our cover story is "Cenere", Mimmo Locasciulli’s comeback, published nine years after the previous album, "Idra". In the interview the Abruzzo singer-songwriter explains the inspiration behind the collection of twelve new songs, witnessing his great artistic vitality. We continue with "Shorelines", excellent results originated from the collaboration between two transnational musicians, the diatonic accordion player Filippo Gambetta and the Canadian pianist and violinist Emilyn Stam. Instead, "Inverna" is the homage of the singer Cristina Meschia to Lombardy musical tradition: a reinterpretation of the historical work of Nanni Svampa and Nuovo Canzoniere Italiano. Our Recommended Disc for this week is "Kulku" by Sans, an international quintet led by English multi-instrumentalist Andy Cronshaw, who has reached the top positions of world music charts and presented in the yearly playlists of many magazines and newspapers. A world music feeling is to be found in the film score of "L’ordine delle cose", with the original compositions by Sergio Marchesini. Of great interest is the eponymous record of Tautumeitas, a sextet of Latvian girls, and "Daa Dee", the project of the Ethiopian singer, actress and dancer Minyeshu. The reading of the week is the precious book with two CDs, displaying a research into Leo Levis’ seminal recordings of Jewish religious traditions in Venice, “Musiche della tradizione ebraica a Venezia. Le registrazioni di Leo Levi (1954-1959)”, edited by Piergabriele Mancuso and published by SquiLibri. To complete the current issue, there is the review of "Imprints" by Michel Banabila and the Corzani Airlines’ back cover pic starring Waxahatchee. Finally, we propose the Blogfoolk staff 2018 playlist, reflecting the diverse plays and the many proposals that have characterized a year of Blogfoolk. Also, we have chosen our Disc of the Year Choice (BF-Choice), which won by a huge majority, is Elena Ledda ‘s "Lantias", the latest refined work of the extraordinary singer from Campidano, produced by Michele Palmas and arranged by THE bass player Silvano Lobina. So, congrats to the lady of the Sardinian and Mediterranean singing for her achievements. Further with our poll, we have Flo’s "La Mentirosa", "100 Ghosts" by Patrick Fariselli and Enza Pagliara and Dario Muci’s "Marea"
Happy New Year 2019 of music with Blogfoolk!
