Our November BF-Choice opens Blogfoolk # 381. It is “100 Ghosts”, the latest realise by multifaceted pianist Patrizio Fariselli, a founding member of Area, one of the most influential rock-progressive in the 1970s. He is recognised amongst the most innovative and original Italian musicians of all time. The result of a year of intense research, composition and recording, "100 Ghosts" brings together new material alongside two brand new versions of already published numbers. It’s a fascinating sound journey combining archaic musical traditions, world music, jazz and contemporary music. Fariselli talks to Blogfoolk about his creative process of the album, representing the continuance of the research sonic path once undertaken with Area, that subsequently led him into the realm of experimentation and improvisation. As far as live music is concerned, we visited the twenty-fourth edition of WOMEX, the main World Music Expo held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria last week in October. Still in the world music trail, we offer the eponymous disc of Tajik masterful lutenist Sirojiddin Juraev. We take you in Eastern Cuba for further string mastery found in Eliades Ochoa and Alejandro Almenares’ s “Dos Gigantes de Música Cubana". Next to come is the Maloya electronic music proposed in “Univers-île”, the second album of Labelle, from the island of La Réunion. Back to Italy to present “Tratturo Zero” by Umbrian storyteller Massimo Liberatori and “Night Ride”, the new offering of Apulian brass band Municipale Balcanica. Elsewhere, Carlos Petrachi’s “Racconti dal Salento” is this week’s reading, a striking anthology of stories rooted in Salento oral tradition. Our first November issue also includes “Partir”, appreciated concept album by the Albanian-born, Swiss singer-songwriter Elena Duni, and Valerio Corzani’s shot featuring the Starcrawlers.
