Editor's Note
We close a year of great editorial gratification for our Foolk Magazine with a very rich issue; opened by "Exit I Enfer". It’s Massimiliano Larocca’s new release, produced by Hugo Race, a work steeped in poetry and intriguing musical solutions, which cross electronics and acoustic sounds. We talked about it with the Florentine singer-songwriter. The international page offers one of the best records of the year which is Lankum’s “The Livelong Day”. We move to Scotland for “The Reeling" by Brighde Chimbeul, a very young virtuoso of the Scottish Smallpipes. Then, we’ll find "Digging For Rays” by Philadelphia born, German resident singer-songwriter Joseph Parsons. Last stop for "Nāḍī", a work originated from the encounter between Guy Buttery and Kanada Narahari. Back home, we review Ars Nova Napoli’s “E senza acqua la terra more”. Still from Naples we present “Vesuviana” by Marco Zurzolo and Davide Costagliola. Our Reading is the brand new issue of “La Piva Dal Carner”, while for the Italian Sounds Good column, you’ll find "Durante", Equ’s new release, inspired by Dante’s “Divina Commedia”. Corzani Airlines, who portrayed the composer and pianist Fabrizio Ottaviucci, ends this issue 438.
Finally, the editorial team has chosen the voyage of Mauro Palmas's "Palma de Sols", published by SquiLibri, as the album of the year (the record actually went into distribution in 2019, despite having been officially released the previous year). It is an accomplished work, which not only reaffirms the well-known technical and compositional skills of the Sardinian instrumentalist (who is joined by a plethora of excellent musicians), but is a harmonious and dreamy, solemn and solar concept album of Mediterranean inspiration.
