Editor's Note
The #428 issue of Foolk Magazine - don’t miss our brand new logo - opens with the cover story, “Grano”, Marta De Lluvia’s latest release, which reached the top five in the Targa Tenco 2019. It’s a vibrant disc in its constant tension for research, leading the Marche singer-songwriter to tour Europe. Daily life, emotions and reflections on existence permeate this work of a passionate artist. She has spoken to us with her customary delicacy and confidence. It follows Paolo Mercurio’s essay “MusicHology: polifonia strumentale e polivocalità tradizionale sarda patrimoni dell’umanità”. In the world music pages, we review “Orinoco”, the brand new album of the Colombian Cimarrón and the Portuguese singer Misía’s “Pura Vida”. We move to Russia for Flavio Poltronieri’s article entitled “Vladimir Vysotskij: L’incontro immaginario". For the live music column we chronicle the twelfth edition of the Andrea Parodi Award, increasingly a panel for meeting and reflecting on world sounds, hosted in Cagliari from October 10th to 12th, and won by the acclaimed trio Fanfara Station. Then, we report the concert the Iranian kamânche virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor with the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio gave at the Southbank Centre in London on October 11th. Let’s go back to our strings focus for the review of “Yorgo”, the unforgettable Neapolitan multi-instrumentalist Gino Evangelista’s posthumous record. Still, you’ll find Laurie Anderson, Tenzin Choegyal and Jesse Paris Smith with their brilliant “Songs from the Bardo”, while Valerio Corzani’s snap presents the Roman jazz drummer Fabrizio Sferra.
