Editor's Note
Blogfoolk #403’s cover story is “Io So’ Me”, the new release by Bandajorona, published by Squilibri. It is an album focused on the Roman dialect, but delivering different styles, from contemporary folk to ethnic and electro-pop numbers. Elisabetta Malantrucco chats to the charismatic leader Bianca Giovannini to learn more about their new work. The world music page opens with our weekly recommended record, which is “Songs of our Native Daughters”, recorded by Rhiannon Giddens, Amythyst Kiah, Leyla McCalla and Allison Russell. A concept album where the four banjoists rethink the history of African-American women, also looking at the contemporary events of the American nation. From the States to French-speaking Canada with “Territoires”, the brand new album by the vibrant Quebec ensemble Le Vent du Nord. Finally, we offer “Through the eyes of the earth”, Belonoga’s new excellent production, behind which is singer Gergana Dimitrova, well-known for being a member of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares and the Eva Quartet. The Visioni column presents “L’appennino che suonava”, a film directed by Alessandro Scillitani, based on Bruno Grulli’s idea, co-produced by Artemide Film and Associazione Amici della Piva Del Carnèr. From our shelf we have picked up two volumes dedicated to Fabrizio De André. It is Enzo Gentile’s “Amico Faber” and “Sguardi Randagi”, a photo book released by Guido Harari. We continue with Paolo Mercurio’s contribution “The Culture of Sound towards a New Humanism” and Giuseppe Lai’s essay on Sardinian progressive rock, entitled “Il Progressive Rock in Sardegna. Dai fratelli Salis al festival ‘In Progress…One’”. Still, we review “Anthology Of Contemporary Music From Africa” while Valerio Corzani’s shot stars Erlend Oye of Kings Of Convenience.
