Editor's Note
“Danse, Mémoire, Danse” is the second chapter of the exhilarating collaboration amongst the Sardinian jazz trumpet player Paolo Fresu, the bandoneonist Daniele Di Bonaventura from Marche and the Corsican chorus A Filetta. It’s Blogfoolk # 388’ s cover story, our Christmas issue, presenting you - ça va sans dire – with an excellent array of music. “Danse, Mémoire, Danse” is a sort of concept-album, dedicated to the Martinican poet and playwright Aimé Césaire and the Corsican Ghjuvanni Nicoli, two revolutionary and resistant personalities, who spoke out and acted against the colonial exploitation and in the name of the peoples’ freedom. With the Berchidda’s trumpet player and cultural agitator, we analyse this brand new release, without neglecting the various publications he is a protagonist of. Next stop Salento for Orchestra Popolare della Notte della Taranta’s latest CD, which summarizes the work under the artistic direction of one of the fathers of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, Daniele Durante. Our world music page contains further music to listen to. First of all, try “Hide and Hair”, the debut album of the British trio The Trials Of Cato. Not very a recent release, but we could not but review the meeting of two female exponents of bardic poetry and storytelling, the Kurdish/Turkish Dengbéj Gazin and the Armenian Âşik Leyli in their valuable project “Van’danYerevan’a / From Van to Yerevan”, published by the Turkish label Kalan. Another name not to be missed is the Chilean singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Pascuala Ilabaca, whose “El mito de la pergola” is the latest publication. Another female voice is Camilla Barbarito (“Sentimento Popolare”) who has produced an interesting re-visiting of a largely uncelebrated songbook. With “Il reggae, dalla Giamaica un tesoro dell’umanità”, Grazia Rita di Florio proposes a reflection on the recent designation of reggae music to the list of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage of humanity. As far as song-writing is concerned, we propose “Questo Lo So” by the director and songster Michelangelo Ricci, whilst “The Rossini Variations” is an amusing and inventive homage to the composer from Pesaro, conceived by the pianist Mario Mariani, himself a Rossini’s fellow citizen. This issue’s back-cover is the pic of Corzani Airlines, starring the Sami singer and yoiker Marja Mortensson.
