Editor's Note
Ernesto Bassignano a historical figure of the Italian culture and music scene, a well-known artist not only for his work as a songwriter but also as a radio host, journalist and author. His new album, “Mestiere di Vivere”, offers the vision of a man with wide-open eyes who never gives up. We talked to Bassignano about this new release and much more during a recent “FoolkNight” gig at the Club55 in Rome. After our # 399 cover story, we turn to world music with the recommended listening of the week, which is “3”, the brand new album by The Gloaming. From Thrace, here it comes the Greek quintet Rodopi Ensemble (“Thraki”) with a repertoire covering songs and dances of this historical cross border area in southeastern Balkan region. Instead, “Avo Kanto” is the latest release by Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra, a band drawing on many musical influences. Last stop in the French-speaking insular Canada with “Horizons” by the vibrant trio Vishtèn. Our Italian journey continues with “Putiferio”, which marks the return of the Aplia maestro of the plucked instruments Mimmo Epifani. For live music, you’ll read the chronicle of Festa di compleanno de L’Isola Ritrovata, a historic music venue in Alessandria. Still song-writing in this week’s reading, which is “Il nostro caro Lucio” by Donato Zoppo. Watch out for the reprint of “Canti Illuminati” by Alvin Curran, the American, Italian-resident composer. This week’s issue of “Blogfoolk” ends with Valerio Corzani’ s snapshot featuring a travelling kindred spirit, James Holden & The Animal Spirits.
