Editor's note
Giorgio Gaber’s song theatre (teatro canzone) is the cover story of Blogfoolk # 383. In fact, we present “Giorgio Gaber. Sette Interviste e la discografia commentata”, a book written by Luciano Ceri, a journalist and a researcher into the history of the Italian song. Elisabetta Malantrucco interviewed Ceri, focusing on the motivations behind this precious publication that sheds new light on the production of the late Milanese artist. The world music page displays the plural sounds of “Igloo Woman” by Marcabru, a band from Romagna, and “The Hermit's Spyglass” by the Illinois singer-songwriter Ben Bedford. In this week’s Live Music pages you’ll hear from Festival “La Zampogna” held in the village of Maranola, the chronicle from “Festival dei Popoli”, which has taken place in Florence and showcased some of the best world music artists. Still, from London, our correspondent Edoardo Marcarini takes us on the stage of the Barbican for “Windrush: A Celebration”, the concert celebrating the Caribbean spirit through song and spoken word. Seventy years after the HMT Empire Windrush’s arrival in Essex, British/Trinidadian poet, novelist and musician Anthony Joseph has brought together an array of musicians and artists to celebrate the impact the Caribbean diaspora on UK culture. Back to the records, we present “Powerillusi & Friends”, a recognition for the band’s forty years’ life. On the jazz side, you’ll find a review of the meeting between Monica Demuru and Natalino Mangalavite in their recent release “Madera Balsa”. As far as contemporary music is concerned, we propose the reissue of “Coming Together / Attica / Les Moutons De Panurge” by Frederic Rzewski, while still tuned in the Caribbean mood is the back-cover by Valerio Corzani featuring Lee Scratch Perry.
