Blogfoolk # 374 cover is for “Infinite Space”, the new release by Pino Jodice Jazz Trio, containing nine tracks inspired by the fascinations and mysteries of the cosmos and dedicated to the studies of Stephen Hawking and Margherita Hack. We interviewed the Neapolitan pianist, who presented the compositional genesis of this ambitious and fascinating work, whose compositions are declined through odd metres, refined melodies and complex harmonies. From the jazz alleys we walk towards the paths of traditional & world music with Clannad’s “Turas 1980”, a double live album recorded by the seminal Irish band at the University of Bremen in 1980, within a long tour promoting their album “Crann Ull”. From Finland it comes “Ääneni Yli Vesien” by Okra Playground. Finally, we are hooked by Rahim Alhaj Trio's new offspring “One Sky”. A homecoming to head to Puglia for “Concerto Alla Rimessa”, the successful experience of Li Ucci Orkestra, a large ensemble, created within the epnonymous festival and the namesake award, an event festival of which “Blogfoolk” is a media partner. Still in Puglia, then, for our live music page presenting the story of the 2018 edition of “Talos Festival”, a lively festival directed by Pino and Livio Minafra, offering yearly a glimpse of the brass bands world declined amongst jazz, contemporary music and world sounds in the name of melody, research and madness. Directly from Belgrade we get the chronicle of “Todo Mundo”, a world music festival staged in the Serbian capital from August 30th to September 2nd. This week’s reading is the fresh and pleasant volume “33 Giri. Guida ai Cantautori Italiani. Gli anni Settanta” written by Mario Bonanno. A review again with “A Noise A Sound” by Roberto Musci and Giovanni Venosta. In conclusion, Corzani Airlines’ shot portrays the Senegalese percussionist Dudu Kouate.
With immense sadness, we cannot but remember Rachid Taha, who passed away, aged 59 in Paris. Oran-born musician and singer, Taha grew up in Lyon, where his family had moved. He was the founder of the band Carte de séjour. In his solo career, then, he fused Algerian folk and pop, The Clash and rock’n’roll. Another thought is to Maartin Allcock, former member of Fairport Convention, and to the singer-songwriter Goran Kuzminac, both passed away some days ago.
