Editor's Note
Our May BF-Choice is a “Laylet el Booree˝, the second recording of the Ifriqiyya Électrique collective, joining the French guitarist and producer François R. Cambuzat, Salento bassist Gianna Greco and Yahia Chouchen, Tunisian musicians Tarek Soltan and Fatma Chebbi, masters musicians of Banga, a ritual practice of the Djerid oasis. The disc follows "Rûwâhîne", extending the range of the group's sound. We reached François R. Cambuzat during their European tour to talk about his works on ‘elevation music’ and the genesis of the post-industrial musical adorcism named Ifriqiyya Électrique. Then, we review the versatile repertoire of the Argentine Swiss-born twins, Las Hermanas Caronni ("Santa Plastica"). Another striking release is the Warsaw Village Band’s "Mazovian Roots Re: action", while moving a little further east, we propose "Variacijas" by the Latvian quartet Lata Donga. The last folk-world music stop is “The White Wolf”, the new creation of Tuscan piper Massimo Giuntini. This week's reading is “Made in Turkey. Studies in Popular Music”, edited by Ali C. Gedik, published in the Routledge Global Popular Music series, directed by Franco Fabbri and Goffredo Plastino. For the song writing page, we picked up two albums published last year by Nota Records, that is Mauro Carrero’s “Jose e Davide” and Livio Ferrari’s "Passioni". Our jazz column presents “Lifetime”, a creation by the Neapolitan trombonist Alessandro Tedesco with his Low Frequency Quartet. Let’s continue with the preview of Riccardo Giagni’s “Kaunis Maa” . To end Blogfoolk # 407, you’ll get Valerio Corzani’s photo, starring Peter Evans.
